Jacquère
Jacquère mainly stays throughout the Savoie region, in the country of France and is usually grown in the subzone known as Apremont. In Savoie, Jacquère is a popular grape. While delicious, this wine is not rich or deeply complex, unlike some of the other wines from the region. It is dry, bright and refreshing, relatively low in alcohol, with very high, racy acidity and shows best when it is young. It’s an ideal choice to enjoy as a casual table wine. Jacquère provides a unique and charming alternative to some of the more common well-loved dry white wines. This grape features the clean, mineral quality often compared to pinot gris/grigio and the grassy, herbal components and citrus of sauvignon blanc (predominantly lemon instead of grapefruit). While very dry, with high acidity, this wine is low in alcohol compared to many other dry white wines, making it very refreshing and food friendly. If you choose to pair this with food, try looking at seafood based dishes or salads or if you just want some cheese, gruyere, or even cheese fondue!
