Barbera, one of my favorite reds that comes from Italy, and so is in the Piedmont region as well! Barbera is the wine everyone drinks in Italy, but no one really talks about it! It's a lot lesser to Nebbiolo which makes some of the best wine in Italy and in the world, known as Barolo & Barbaresco, and many others.
Barbera can both be rich and light-bodied and it comes down to pigments of the skins. They are dark-staining that dye the wines sometimes near black! Barbera can also be aged in stainless steel for a more fresher, fruitier wine. Or aged in a oak barrel, where you get flavors such as vanilla, nutmeg, anise and clove.
Barbera is a wine that can be known as 'juicy' and it's due to it's high acid, so the wine is going to be very food friendly. Think of foods like chicken, pork, or even rabbit(which is very common in Italy to eat). Check out my review below on the Barbera I did and I paired it with a cheeseburger, because I felt like the wine needed something to pair with as the wine had almost unbearable acid.
